In the 30th edition of the Hong Kong Open I did my third appearance in the largest tournament in Asia. In 2009 and 2012 with a lower ranking, I wasn’t able to move past First Round. In this opportunity I won my match against the Frenchman Gregoire Marche 3/1 6/11 11-6 11-3 8-3.
Unfortunately he had to forfeit in the last one due to injury, which allowed me to reach second round. After a rest day I faced the always inspired Chris Simpson from England, who was coming from having great performances in his past tournaments and he came prepared by imposing a very physical and intense pace that put me under a lot of pressure. The last time I won a match him was in May, and this time it was no exception with an identical score of 3/1 3/1 12-10 5-11 11-8 11-5.
In the third round I was up against the World Championship’s Runner-up, Omar Mosaad form Egypt, losing 3-2 after being 11-3 11-3 up in the first two, then falling 9-11 9-11 in the following two, and then losing the last one after having 6 match balls. It was the best match of the tournament in which both of us displayed excellent Squash skills proving why we are top 5 in the world. To end the year in a high note, it was the best match that I have played all season.
